August 2023 – Build Events-to-Business Actions Apps with SAP BTP and MS AzureAWS

The event-to-action framework helps to develop an event-driven application in SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). This example focuses on using the framework and SAP BTP services for developing, deploying, and monitoring the solution like the CAP framework, SAP Event Mesh, SAP Connectivity Service, SAP Private Link Service or SAP Business Rules.

The sample application focuses on consuming events from the Microsoft Azure IoT Platform and AWS IoT and based on business rules in SAP BTP, actions are triggered in the SAP S/4HANA system. You can customize this to any event integrating from any source system to any SAP LoB systems.

Why aren’t my tests stable? – Test Isolation with the ABAP Unit Framework

A lot of people develop ABAP code. And most of them tested it in some way.

In the light of agile software engineering becoming the common way of implementing software, automated testing is becoming more and more relevant, especially in the cloud. And with it, test isolation is of increasing importance to reduce runtime, improve stability, covering error cases, and simplifying error analysis. However, test isolation can be challenging, especially in closely coupled systems with a huge number of dependencies between components.

With the complexity arising from different components implemented by SAP, partners, or customers, this need for isolation is continuously growing. The ABAP Unit Framework is the usual way to go when implementing automated tests for ABAP code, may it be object-oriented software, function modules, CDS, BOPF, or RAP. And with this complexity and variety, there are lots of struggles coming with isolation of different aspects; but several tools exist to overcome these challenges as well.

In this session, I will give an overview about why test isolation is helpful and clarify terms in this area, leading to a quick introduction into the general concept of dependency injection, the core of test isolation. This will be followed by an overview about the current state of tools to help with common isolation challenges, such as isolation from function modules, authorization checks, database contents, and CDS entities.

We look forward to seeing you!!

Master Your Production Line with Routings – SAP EPD, Intelligent Handover

The highlight of the upcoming release is the allocation of bill of material (BOM) components to routings directly in the Planning application of Intelligent Handover in SAP Enterprise Product Development (EPD). This new feature allows the easy assignment of components to routings through a table view or graphical view, eliminating manual steps and increasing productivity.
With this feature, production engineers can streamline their work, reducing the chances of miscommunication or errors during handovers. The ability to leverage existing routing sequences and templates saves time and effort, ensuring consistency and standardized workflows across the organization.

July 2023 Garage Extend SAP S4HANA with SAP Build Process Automation – APJ

Use SAP Build Process Automation and SAP Cloud Application Programming Model to extend the functionality of your SAP S/4HANA system. You do this by developing an extension application and deploy it in SAP BTP. The new functionality will be seamlessly added to your SAP S/4HANA system without disrupting the core processes.

To be able to apply this use case to your needs, look at this sample scenario:
The suppliers details are available only in your SAP S/4HANA system and no one outside your company has access to this information. You want to grant a third-party vendor real-time access to the newly added suppliers to your SAP S/HANA system to validate the legibility of these suppliers.

This use case provides an opportunity to learn various skills related to building an extension application for SAP S/4HANA. One can learn how to utilize SAP Event Mesh to consume events from SAP S/4HANA in the extension application. Additionally, it teaches how to automate new processes using SAP Build Process Automation. The use case also covers how to develop the extension application using the SAP Cloud Application Programming Model and build its user interface using SAP Fiori. Lastly, it explains how to integrate SAP Build Process Automation with Cloud Application Programming Model. Overall, this use case offers comprehensive learning on building an extension application for SAP S/4HANA while utilizing various SAP tools and technologies.
